Euripides’ Oedipus

oedipus_iota 1

Euripides Oedipus differs from Sophocles:
he included a long narrative of the Sphinx’s riddle
and of how Oedipus solved it;
Oedipus is blinded not by his own hand
but by servants of the dead Laius;
when the truth of Oedipus’ life is revealed
Jocasta does not kill herself (as in Sophocles and Homer) from shame
but lives on
resolved to share his guilt and suffering.
